Bozz48. You should be able to shoot many thousands of rounds without completely disassembling the pistol. Field stripping, cleaning, and lubing will keep it top condition for a very long time. If you have 9 or 10 thousand rounds though it, it might be time to completely disassemble it.

I've had my LCP for a couple of weeks and have put about 100 rounds through it on two separate occasions - 50 rounds per session. Towards of each of the session I've encoutered a "stove pipe" issue. Is this typical for a break in period?Earlier today I purchased a Ruger LCP Gen2 .380 and it looks to have quite a bit of oil on/in it...especially where the spent casings eject. Is it a good idea to take it apart and give it a good wipe down before firing it? Any advice or words of wisdom for breaking down and cleaning the LCP Gen2? Thanks! Small amounts of modern, inexpensive gun oil are much better than large amounts. Generally you would disassemble (field strip) your unloaded pistol, and put a drop on the barrel and use fingers to rub it over the surface.
